The development team and community behind Habari are proud to announce the release of Habari Version 0.2. This is a "Developers Review" version, and as such, is not yet recommended for every-day use. However, if you would like to join the Habari community, and be a part of developing Habari into the great application we're hoping it will be, this is a great starting point.
New features that will help Habari users include the beginnings of the user manual which will be a core part of Habari. We believe that you shouldn't have to go hunting for information on the software you've already installed. There is also a system to test plugins that you install to help make sure that they don't leave you with a broken site.
Under the hood, we've added some features to help with administration of your Habari Site. Habari now has event logging which will help troubleshoot any problems that arise. Although we haven't yet implemented a viewing system for the logs, this is a big step. We've also made Post Slugs editable, to allow you greater control.
For the developers, we've added dynamic content types. Standard "entry" and "page" types are created on installation, but you can add, via plugins, other types of content to suit your needs. Media, Calendar, and Link are just a few of the ideas that have already been mentioned. Additionally a Stack Class has been added to allow easy addition of resources to page output as needed. A FormUI class allows plugins to easily create control pages without huge amounts of HTML coding. We've also added a cron function to allow for scheduled actions like log rotation, feed updating, or other recurring events to occur automatically. Of course, lots of small things have been cleaned up, added, and improved as well. The best way to find out what is to try Habari for yourself.
Habari is still growing quickly, and there is much still to do. Plans include User Permissions, enhanced tag functions, more themes and theme engines, better support for time-zones, and much, much more. If you're interested in helping us reach our goals, and perhaps adding some of your own, give Habari 0.2 a try!
